* Always wear rubber gloves when you plan to do any household work or gardening. If your hands are exposed to too much water, soap, detergents, dirt or chemicals then, the skin of your hands can become wrinkled and rough.
* Ideally, you should moisturize your hands at least 4 times in a day, especially after washing them. Even if you do not have time make it a habit of moisturizing your hands before you go to bed at night. This is just as important as brushing you teeth before you go to bed, every night.

* You can also use your face exfoliator on your hands. This will help to remove any dirt and dead skin cells, and nourish and rejuvenate the skin of your hands.
* You can scrub your hands with bath salts, after washing them with soap. This will leave your hands squeaky clean. Do remember to slather some moisturizer on your hands afterwards.
* If you have oily hands, you can try rubbing cornmeal on them after washing them with soap.
* Go in for regular manicures (professional or homemade) to keep your hands and nails in good condition.
* Drink lots of water and fresh fruit juices. Eat a balanced, low-oil diet.
* Exercise regularly. If you are healthy and fit, you skin will have a healthy glow.
* If the skin of your hands is dry and flaky—you can massage a little petroleum jelly on your hands before you go to bed at night. After you do this, you may wear thin cotton gloves. Wake up in the morning and enjoy the soft feel of your hands.
* A quick, easy-to-make homemade scrub for your hand will help. Here’s the recipe for a rejuvenating homemade hand scrub:

Hands play an important role in modelling and everyday conversation and expression, come to that. People notice hands. Rough, coarse skin with bitten nails and chipped polish shows a gril up to be dilatory about her appearance and implies a lack of ‘polish’ in her work. From a model’s point of view, bad hands limit her performance in front of the camera. So many shots call for hands as accessories to a ‘mood’ or expression, and compromising a ‘look’ in order to hide the model’s bad hands can result in an awkward com-position.

To encourage nails to grow healthly and keep the cuticles smooth and supple, you must perfrom a thorough manicure at least once a week. Your equipment consists of:

1.cotton wool 2.Almond oil 3. Oily polish remover 4. Leather buffer 5. A bowl of warm, soapy water 6. Base coat 7. Emery boards 8. Nail polish 9. Orange sticks 10. Top coat 11. Hand cream 12. Quick-dry spray

The ugliest nightmare! Not only does it turn a reasonably graceful pair of hands into stubby paws, but it actually reduces the amount of strong nail area when the nail begins to grow back. You can always tell a reformed nail biter by the proportion of pink to white. As the nail was habitually nibbled further down the quick, the eventual re-growth at the tip, although weak and brittle-looking, easily equals the basic pink area.

Lack of ’something to do with the hands’ is the common excuse for nervous nibblers. So try occupying them with knitting or even fiddling with a piece of material whilst you’re watching television, listening to records, or traveling. Keeping them manicured and coated with nail-strengthening clear varnish is a good deterrent. Avoid bright polishes which draw attention to your stubby nails while they’re growing back, but flatter them instead with muted flesh tones or simply clear varnish.

First of all, eating quantities of gelatine cannot strengthen soft nails, nor can it encourage them to grow. However, some peoplle belive that kelp or seaweed supplements from health stores have an effect on both nails and thier relations in keratin, hair. Avoid soaking them in very hot water and detergents which dries nails out and causes the keratin layers to separate and peel.

Resign yourself to the fact that you cannot grow your nails to any great length. Keep them well-filed and shaped instead-the shorter they are the longer they are likely to stay intact. Reinforce them with a nail-strengthening product, or an extra-hard strengthening varnish.

If a nail snaps off completely you can either replace it temporarily with a false nail, to maintain an even set for a special occasion or, better still, file the rest down to its level. This seems harsh, but in reality nothing looks more ludicrous than one stubby nail amongst a set of near talons.

You can mend a split, however, and save your nail until it has grown far enough to file by using a special nail repair glue. These glues are a slight variation of the all-purpose quick-drying household glues and should be treated with the same amount of caution. Make sure the nail is clean, dry and free from grease; then very carefully flood the split with a small droplet of glue. Quickly remove any glue from the surrounding finger with polish remover to prevent burning or skin sticking to skin. When the glue has set(a matter of minutes), file flush to the nail surface and apply nail polish to hide the join. The mend will last longer if you file the nail down a little first,to reduce the stress on the tear.

The prime cause of any irregularity in the nail is damage to the soft. living base. Knocks and rough treatment around the cuticles cause bumps and flecks, while more serious damage (trapping the nail in a door, say) can cause the nail to grow permanently derformed. Ridges are often caused by scraping the nails instead of using polish remover! Again, ill-health can leave its mark-the effects of ‘flu, for example, scarring the nail until it grows out completely, in about three and a half months.

Unfortunately, nothing can remove white flecks. But ridges can be eased by regular buffing and a coating of ridges-filler base to provide a smoother surface for your nail polish. Never attempt to file down ridges as this weakens the nails and may damage them further.
