Mind and breathing are closely linked. When you are angry or stressed, breathing get faster. When depressed, the exhalation is prolonged. Fearfulness can lead to a momentary stoppage of breathing. On occasions of excessive emotions it becomes difficult to maintain breathing and even talk. It is said that “When the heart is full, the tongue is tied”-such is the close relationship between breathing and mind. When the breathing is on,the chitta or the mind becomes active or functional and when breathing is stable, the mind becomes calm.

A healthy lifestyle -  Now is the time to junk food and eat healthy, nutritious food which can help you and your baby go through those special nine months with flying colours. Eat a variety of food everyday, covering all the food groups. Make sure you have extra portions of calcium. Also check with you doctor about taking a calcium supplement. Limit caffeine intake as much as possible. Eat complex carbohydrates rather than refind ones. Stay away from sugar goodies as much as possible and when you do have a craving, choose the more healthy alternative, for instance a homemade pudding made from jaggery instead of sugar. Getting used to eating sensibly will help you make good food choices during your pergnancy and the many months of breastfeeding that follow.  The other things you will have to give up now if you indulge in them are up now if you indulge in them are cigarettes, drugs and alcohol. All of these can cause grave harm to your baby. In fact, you should also encourage your partner to give up these becasue all of these substances can affect the nature of sperm. And when you do conceive, passive smoking is bad for you and your developing foetus.
