Pranayama-Mind and Breathing
Pranayama April 7th, 2009Mind and breathing are closely linked. When you are angry or stressed, breathing get faster. When depressed, the exhalation is prolonged. Fearfulness can lead to a momentary stoppage of breathing. On occasions of excessive emotions it becomes difficult to maintain breathing and even talk. It is said that “When the heart is full, the tongue is tied”-such is the close relationship between breathing and mind. When the breathing is on,the chitta or the mind becomes active or functional and when breathing is stable, the mind becomes calm.
